About this activity
Eight sea creatures (a turtle, a dolphin, a school of fish, a stingray, an octopus, a seahorse, a swordfish and a jellyfish) each have a row of dotted waves leading to coral, seaweed, a starfish, a shell or a treasure chest. The waves are gentle and the dots are large, which makes this a friendly first curved-line page.
Skills this page builds
- Gentle curvesRounded waves introduce curved lines without sharp corners.
- Large-dot accuracyBig dots are easier to hit, so young children enjoy early success.
- Left-to-right directionEach wave travels from the animal to its goal on the right.
How to do this activity
- Print the page and give your child a chunky pencil or crayon.
- Choose a sea animal and put the pencil on the first dot of its wave.
- Trace along the dots to the shell, coral or treasure on the right.
- Repeat with the other animals, then color the sea.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Say “swish, swish” as the pencil goes up and down.
- Do three or four rows now and save the rest for later.
- Ask each animal’s name and what sound or movement it makes.
Frequently asked questions
Is this easier than the Under the Sea Waves page?
Yes, in general. The waves are softer and the dots are larger, so it suits the youngest children.
