About this activity

One large rocket fills the page, tilted as if it is just lifting off. Its body, two fins and flame are drawn in dots for children to trace, while the round porthole window, the stripes and the stars are already in solid lines. After tracing, the whole rocket and the starry sky are ready to color.

Skills this page builds

How to do this activity

  1. Print the page. Use a pencil or a dark crayon for tracing so the outline stays easy to see.
  2. Trace the dotted outline of the rocket body, starting at the nose. Then trace the two fins and the flame.
  3. Lifting the pencil at the corners is fine. Tracing in short pieces is easier than one long line.
  4. Color the rocket. Try one color for the body and different colors for the fins and the flame, then color the stars.

Tips for parents and teachers

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to trace before coloring?

Tracing first completes the outline and gives each colored area a clear edge, but you can skip it for younger children and start by coloring the solid parts.

Can my child color this page online?

This is a printable pencil-and-crayon activity. The online Color Studio is available for the coloring-page collections, not for activity sheets.
