About this activity
Seven butterflies line up on the left, each with a wide outlined path running to a row of flowers on the right. The paths wave, arch and loop, and each has a dashed line down the middle. Children can follow the dashed line or simply stay between the two edges, which makes this gentler than a thin dotted line.
Skills this page builds
- Smooth curvesWaves, arches and loops ask the pencil to keep moving without stopping at corners.
- Staying inside a trackThe wide path gives a forgiving target, so children practice control before moving to thin lines.
- Left-to-right flowEvery path travels from the butterfly to the flower, reinforcing the direction used for writing.
How to do this activity
- Print the page and pick a pencil or a crayon.
- Choose a butterfly and tell your child it needs to reach the flower. Put the pencil at the start of the path.
- Draw along the dashed middle line, or stay between the two edges, until you reach the flower.
- Repeat with the other butterflies, then color the butterflies, flowers and ladybugs.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Start with the gentle arches, then try the loops.
- Ask your child to “fly” a finger along the path before drawing.
- Use a different color for each butterfly to keep the page cheerful.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to follow the dashed line or stay between the edges?
Both are fine. Staying between the edges is easier, while following the dashed middle line is a bit more precise. Let your child choose, and try the other way next time.
