About this activity
Snails leave dotted trails across a busy garden: a row of loops, a big spiral ending at a rose, tight curls, a long wave and rounded bumps. Mushrooms, flowers, a watering can and bugs fill the gaps. Because the dots are small and the shapes keep turning, this is one of the most demanding pages in Pencil Control.
Skills this page builds
- Spirals and loopsRound, continuously turning lines are among the hardest strokes and the best control practice.
- Precision with small dotsClosely spaced dots reward a slow, careful pencil.
- Patience and staminaSeveral long trails in one sitting build the stamina needed for longer writing.
How to do this activity
- Print the page and use a sharp pencil.
- Choose a snail and put the pencil on the first dot of its trail.
- Trace slowly, following the dots through each loop and curl. Rest your wrist on the table.
- Do one or two trails at a time, then color the snails, mushrooms and flowers.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Try the loops before the big spiral; the spiral is the hardest.
- Take a break between trails to avoid tired hands.
- Praise effort, not neatness; this page is meant to be a stretch.
