About this activity
Four friendly monsters need wonderfully unusual tufts. Their different face shapes and numbers of eyes make each customer easy to recognize. Move from pointed tufts to soft waves, round curls and straight upright hair.
Skills this page builds
- Pencil controlChange direction at zigzag tips, round the waves and loops, and lift between the upright strokes.
- Drawing from a patternFit tufts above round, tall and square heads without covering the monsters’ different eyes.
How to do this activity
- Print in portrait orientation using fit to page, keeping all four borders visible. Choose a pencil and coloring pencils.
- Read the bubbles left to right, top to bottom. Trace zigzags, waves, loops and straight vertical strokes, then repeat each pattern as tufts on its monster.
- Color the finished hair and clothes or faces. Tell someone which movement you liked best.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Give each monster a voice and ask for short or tall tufts. Keep the pencil marks above the eyes so the expressions remain visible.
- Choose just one customer for a short session. Lift the pencil when needed and keep the hand relaxed.

What if my child wants every monster to have different hair?
