About this activity
The robot salon turns pencil marks into imaginary wire hair. Four geometric heads offer flat and curved starting edges. Practise staircase corners, sharp zigzags, flowing loops and gentle waves as four kinds of imaginary wire hair.
Skills this page builds
- Pencil controlAlternate horizontal and vertical strokes on the staircase before comparing its corners with the zigzag.
- Drawing from a patternUse the flat or curved top of each robot as the starting edge for its wire hairstyle.
How to do this activity
- Print in portrait orientation using fit to page, keeping all four borders visible. Choose a pencil and coloring pencils.
- Trace the staircase at the top left, zigzags at the top right, loops at the bottom left and waves at the bottom right. Repeat those wire shapes above each robot’s head.
- Color the finished hair and clothes or faces. Tell someone which movement you liked best.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Say “across, stop, up” for staircase corners. Let the pencil pause at each turn; speed is not the goal.
- Choose just one customer for a short session. Lift the pencil when needed and keep the hand relaxed.
Frequently asked questions
Should the robot wires be perfectly straight?
No. The aim is to notice when to stop and change direction. Uneven steps still make excellent robot hair.
