About this activity
Cut a zigzag mane and attach a handle to make a lion puppet ready to tell a story. Try a whispering lion and a cheerful lion: how does their story change?
How to do this activity
- Print on A4 or Letter in portrait, using Fit to page with all four borders visible. Use light card if your printer supports it, coloring pencils, child scissors and a glue stick. An adult helps with cutting. Color before cutting; leave glue areas uncolored.
- Cut the handle, then follow the outer zigzag around the mane. Turn the paper at each point; do not cut out the face.
- Spread glue on the hatched end of the handle and press it behind the lower part of the mane. Keep the circles visible below the lion.
- Let the join dry flat. Hold the handle low down so the face stays visible.
Tips for parents and teachers
- The top row is a key, not a piece to assemble: thick outside lines are cut lines, dashed lines are folds and diagonal hatching marks glue. Thin lines inside the pieces are decorations. The page border is not part of the model.
