About this activity
Fold four walls around a square base and add a curved handle to build a tiny paper basket. Fill it with paper flowers or folded notes. Carry it by the base: the paper handle is decorative and is not made for heavy objects.
How to do this activity
- Print on A4 or Letter in portrait, using Fit to page with all four borders visible. Use light card if your printer supports it, coloring pencils, child scissors and a glue stick. An adult helps with cutting. Color before cutting; leave glue areas uncolored.
- Cut the cross-shaped net and the handle, keeping all four hatched tabs. Fold the walls and tabs at the dashed lines with the stars outside.
- Set the blank centre square on the table. Raise its four walls, tuck each tab inside the neighbouring wall and glue the four corners together.
- Curve the handle without folding it. Glue its hatched ends inside two opposite walls near their top edges. Let every join dry.
Tips for parents and teachers
- The top row is a key, not a piece to assemble: thick outside lines are cut lines, dashed lines are folds and diagonal hatching marks glue. Thin lines inside the pieces are decorations. The page border is not part of the model.
- Fill it with paper flowers or folded notes. Carry it by the base: the paper handle is decorative and is not made for heavy objects.
