About this activity
Slide two matching tree silhouettes together through opposite slots to build a standing tree. Build a little forest for the paper house. If the join is tight, ask an adult to widen the slots slightly instead of forcing them.
How to do this activity
- Print on A4 or Letter in portrait, using Fit to page with all four borders visible. Use light card if your printer supports it, coloring pencils, child scissors and a glue stick. An adult helps with cutting. Color before cutting; leave glue areas uncolored.
- Use light card and cut both outer tree shapes. An adult can cut out the narrow strips forming the slots, stopping exactly at their closed ends.
- Keep both treetops pointing up. Turn one tree a quarter turn so the two pieces cross at a right angle.
- Slide the bottom-opening slot down into the top-opening slot until their ends meet. Both trunk bases should rest on the table. No glue is needed.
Tips for parents and teachers
- The top row is a key, not a piece to assemble: thick outside lines are cut lines, dashed lines are folds and diagonal hatching marks glue. Thin lines inside the pieces are decorations. The page border is not part of the model.
